No worries, ImpAct sister organisation STEP Beyond Borders professional team has it all covered! As a female-run team, they take care of the safety and security aspect in a special way.
After completing the registration to a program and the first deposit, the volunteer receives a detailed guide-book as a brochure to prepare for the trip. This includes information about project, destination, FAQ, etc. Parents should also have a look at the document to get answers to many questions. We also share a packing list and information about social norms to ensure that volunteer joins us with correct mindset and expectations.
Our team is available for calls on working days but for the registered volunteers we schedule Skype or Zoom calls for pre-arrival orientation to answer to your questions and for you to meet us virtually before you join our warm family in India. SBB choose all the accommodation options and host families through background check and volunteer houses or hostels are constantly monitored and supervised. SBB local staff provides 24/7 emergency support for medical and non-medical purposes. Local contact numbers of volunteer coordinators and hosts are shared with participants prior to arrival.
SBB local coordinators provide detailed orientation to each volunteer prior and upon arrival related to the rules and regulations we follow during the stay. In many of our locations we have strict curfew for weekdays to ensure the safety of our participants. All the food is included in the program cost and we provide authentic vegetarian Indian meals with less spices to make sure the health of the participants doesn’t hamper. All the food vendors undergo quality check. On the first day of the project, local coordinator always guides the participants to the project location, explains the system of transport, options available and safest one to choose. SBB team also help the participants to get a local SIM card which ensures the participants’ access to local calls to coordinators and availability of internet to find information online and chat.
